Work begins on mural for Herman Prior

Artistic Heart

Marg Rzepa has an artistic heart.

The Portage Citizen

The local senior shows off a tile she painted on Valentine’s Day at the Herman Prior that will eventually become part of an eight by 10-foot mural.

Rzepa was one of a number of seniors who came out on Valentine’s Day to help paint as many heart-themed tiles as they liked.

“It’s about community,” explains Yvette Cuthbert, who organized the project. Cuthbert was also the catalyst in organizing and completing the Canada 150 mural that now greets visitors at Stride Place.

“In the end all the four-inch tiles will be assembled to show two clasped hands showing the heartbeat of the community,” Cuthbert said.

“It’s just a lot of fun and a good thing to do,” added Rzepa.

Weather permitting the mural will be installed on the west exterior wall at the Herman Prior Centre.
