The recent Portage MCC Thrift Shop Ladies Shopping Night to raise awareness and funds for local programs that benefit women raised $800 for the Prairie Pregnancy Support Centre.
Prairie Pregnancy Support Centre and Portage MCC Thrift Shop partnered to present the special shopping experience – the second annual at MCC – for 100 women on March 12. The limited $8 tickets sold out within four days and generous donors provided hundreds of quality items for the sale, organizers said.
“Volunteers and staff from Prairie Pregnancy Support Centre and Portage MCC Thrift Shop prepared the store during the day, with freshly baked goods lovingly prepared as well. With Fair Trade coffee ready to pour into china cups and saucers, ladies from across the region lined up outside in anticipation for the 7 p.m. opening,” an MCC press release said.
The $800 from the ticket sales was donated to Prairie Pregnancy Support Centre to support their local work with women & families. All of the $2,460 in sales generated during the event will be donated to MCC Manitoba to help improve access to affordable housing for vulnerable individuals, families, and communities in Manitoba.
On Monday, March 19th at 7 PM, Portage MCC Community Assistance Centre Inc. (operating as Portage MCC Thrift Shop) held its Annual Meeting.
About 25 people were in attendance, and heard reports from staff and Board members. The attached Annual Report was distributed at that time, highlighting events of the past year, and revealing the budget for 2018.
A draw was held for a $35 gift certificate (commemorating our almost 35 years in existence). Ed Enns of Portage la Prairie was the winner.
