RCMP Major Crimes and Forensic Identification units are assisting in the investigation of an April aggravated assault at a McKay Ave. home.
Portage la Prairie RCMP were called to a home in the 1400 block of McKay Ave. on April 11 at 8:29 a.m. and found resident of the home had suffered serious injuries. The victim was transported to hospital for serious, life-threatening injuries, but is stable at this time. Police do not believe there is a risk to the public. Police believe the suspect and victim were known to each other and this was a targeted assault.
As a result of this incident, police are looking for Isadore Junior Vermette, a 22-year-old male from Portage la Prairie. He is described as an Indigenous male with a medium build, 5’9” tall, approximately 190 lbs. with brown hair and brown eyes and multiple tattoos on his arms.
Vermette is presently at large on a warrant for his arrest on criminal charges of aggravated assault, breaking and entering, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and being disguised with intent to commit an offence.
