IIU INVESTIGATION CLEARS PORTAGE COP OF USING EXCESSIVE FORCE

The Independent Investigation Unit (IIU) of Manitoba has found a Portage la Prairie RCMP officer didn’t use excessive force during a woman’s arrest last year.

The provincial police watchdog released a report May 2 concluding no charges should be laid against the officer.

The IIU began an investigation after a 33-year-old woman suffered a cut near her eyebrow on Aug. 12, 2017. The report said a video viewed by the IIU civilian director “contradicted the information provided by the woman, and showed the subject officer did not use unreasonable or excessive force in his dealings with her.”
