After a two-day soft opening, the Great Canadian Dollar Store in Portage la Prairie cut the ceremonial ribbon Friday morning to officially announce the party store is open.

Portage la Prairie & District Chamber of Commerce President Preston Meier and Portage la Prairie Mayor Irvine Ferris joined Great Canadian Dollar Store representatives to celebrate the opening of the large and well-stocked new store on Saskatchewan Ave.

Several of the store owners and Kevin Kane — Great Canadian Dollar Store franchisor — were all smiles as the ribbon was cut to welcome a new business to Portage la Prairie.

“We opened on Wednesday as a soft opening and are happy with how the store is being received and the comments we are hearing,” says Travis Neufeld, one of the owners.
