Local artists selected to show their talents
The Portage Citizen — The Central Region Juried Art Exhibition, a highlight in the Portage & District Arts Centre schedule, will run in the gallery from July 4 to July 28.
The 37th Annual Central Region Juried Art Exhibition travelling exhibition opened April 26 at the Tiger Hills Arts Association in Holland, MB, and continues through August with exhibitions at Morden, Portage la Prairie and Carman.
The Central Cultural Council took great pleasure in welcoming the 37 artists from the Central Region of Manitoba that entered 87 works of art into the Juried Art Exhibition,” PDAC informs. “We congratulate and thank all the artists who presented us with a broad spectrum of mediums, styles and subject matter, verifying the diverse talent of our regional artists.
“This year, 40 pieces of art have been selected to tour the Central Region for the next four months. Congratulations to these artists for this accomplishment and to the People’s Choice Award Winner – Helen Knockaert of Treherne for her fibre art piece, The Lion and the Lamb.
Fifteen of the artists are local and include Rebecca Albert, Lee Beaton, Evangeline Chan, Debbie Drain, Robert Greenlay, Annette Henderson, Matthew Lacroix, Heather Martens Rempel, Florence McBride, Fran Pickell, Janice Unger, Darlene Vust, Helen Wiebe, Dennis Wiens and Melissa Woods. Ten of the pieces will also be on display at the Buhler Gallery at the St. Boniface Hospital, Sept 6-27, as part of the Manitoba Rural & Northern Juried Art Show with the Manitoba Arts Network.

The opening reception and artist talk is on Thursday, July 5, at 7 p.m. at the Portage & District Arts Centre (PDAC) 11-2nd Street NE (west doors of the William Glesby Building).
