Chamber changes business awards format

The Portage la Prairie & District Chamber of Commerce is changing the format of its Best Business Awards.

The chamber has announced the November event is now called the Business Awards Celebration and it is moving the Volunteer Awards out of the Business Awards Celebration evening.

“We’re moving the Volunteer Awards out of the Business Awards Celebration evening,” the chamber says in its event promotions.

“We will be having a separate celebration during Volunteer Week in April of 2019 to hand out the volunteer awards. This will be a lunch celebration and we hope to get more non-profits involved in the nomination process and make it all about our great volunteers.

The Best Business Awards featured six award categories. The Business Awards Celebration format narrows the award categories down to four: Outstanding Business of the Year (instead of Outstanding Small and Outstanding Medium);

Outstanding Contribution to the Community by a Business, Outstanding Not-for-Profit Organization and added this year, Outstanding New Entrepreneur of the Year.

“Our hope is we will get a lot more nominations. This will give us a chance to focus more on the nominees and the winners.”

Sponsorship opportunities are still available.

2018 sponsors include Roquette Canada, Christianson TDS, MIG Insurance, Portage Mutual Insurance and Stride Credit Union.
