RCMP revive cold case where seniors were viciously assaulted during a 2010 home invasion

It was a particularly brutal assault on two Portage seniors during a 2010 home invasion and Mounties here are adamant: they want to get their man.

On March 31, 2010 at 4:15 a.m. the Portage la Prairie RCMP responded to a break and enter in progress in the 100 block of 6 St. SE. Officers would find two elderly residents had been seriously injured by an unidentified male suspect. The suspect fled from the scene with countless valuable items, and left the victims helpless in their home.

“This is a historic crime which shocked the community when it occurred,” RCMP say in an Aug. 24 press release. “Investigators are certain that someone knows who is responsible for this vicious crime. Police are hopeful that someone might now have the courage to come forward and help bring closure to the victims and their family.”

If you know who is responsible, or have any information that could help, please contact the Portage la Prairie RCMP at 204-857-4445, or your local police detachment. If you wish to remain anonymous, calls can be made through Manitoba Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), text “TIPMAN” plus your message to CRIMES (274637) or by visiting www.manitobacrimestoppers.com. Tips leading to the arrest and prosecution of the suspect could receive cash awards.
