Ferris will seek re-election

Mayor Irvine Ferris announced Monday he will seek re-election on Oct. 24.
The experienced city councillor and so far, one-term mayor wants to lead Portage la Prairie city politics for another four-year term.
With six municipal council seats and the mayoral head of table again to be decided in the Oct. 24 municipal election, so far only Ferris and Coun. Ryan Espey have declared intent to seek re-election. Coun. Liz Driedger has made it known she will not seek another term.
Ferris is now the chairperson of the board of revision, member of the finance, legislative and property committee, city planning and economic development committee, public safety committee, waterworks committee, transportation committee, community services committee and regional landfill board.
He is a director of the Portage Regional Recreation Authority, Portage & District Hospital Foundation, Queen Elizabeth Scholarship, Portage la Prairie Planning District and representative on the budget committee, city manager’s evaluation, emergency control group and the tax sharing committee.
