What an incredible week at the Herman Prior Activity Centre!
Many of our volunteers and activities wind down for the summer months but come fall, the activity level picks up. You have probably noticed that the nights are getting chilly and one can tell fall is just around the corner. The apple harvest is in full bloom and apples galore are coming to the centre. Volunteers are busy washing, peeling, freezing and making jams and sauces with them. The beautiful smells of cinnamon, cloves, sugar and apples cooking on the stove inundates the corridors and rooms, giving the centre a welcoming homey smell… makes many of us think of those old good childhood memories. You can hear some of our patrons talking around the tables…’Oh I remember when mom used to’, or saying: ‘when I was a child applesauce and fresh home-baked bread’… It sure brings back good times.
This past week we took a day trip to the Morden Corn and Apple Fest as part of our regular activities and sounds like everyone had a great time.
Our next trip is to Manitou on Sept. 8, for the Honey Garlic and Maple Syrup Festival leaving at 12:30 returning 8:30 – 9:00 p.m. $85 for members or $95 for non members, a great reminder as to why becoming a member has its perks, for only $25 a year!
We would like to remind our community that we will be hosting an OPEN HOUSE Thursday, Sept. 13, from 4 – 7 p.m. This will be a showcase for not only programs at the centre, but some other programs and activities in our community.
Our canning project has a bunch of goodies for you to pick from, excellent ideas for gifts or treats at home. Which makes me think Christmas is around the corner, if you are planning an event and you need space, remember that we have two beautiful rooms where you can host your event.
See you at the Prior!
