A huge Metis celebration scheduled for Sept. 16, at Rotary Republic Manitobah Park has been moved indoors at the Herman Prior Activity Centre.
“Except for a very few events that obviously can’t be held indoors, everything will go as planned,” says Kathy Bryce, one of the organizers of the “Sharing the Day the Metis Way” celebration. “The long-range forecast calls for rain the entire weekend and we don’t want to ruin the fun this day will be.”
Attendance at the all-day family-oriented event is free. The 9 a.m. pancake breakfast is an exception but very affordable at $5.
Participation in all activities for all ages even the animal calling — duck, moose and elk — contests is free.
“This is the first one for the Portage MMF local,” Bryce said. “It is a day to share the Metis culture through fun, food, dance and activity.”
Johnny Dietrich will perform the Metis Anthem at 12:30 p.m. during the official opening.
The Sharpe Sisters and Wreckin’So are scheduled to perform.
