Fiddlers, it’s time to rosin up your bow, the 50th annual Manitoba Open Old Time Fiddle Championships are in Portage la Prairie on Sept. 15.
At the Glesby Centre, events get underway with an open jam and registration starting at 11 a.m.
The opening ceremonies start at 12:30 p.m. with the contest at 1 p.m. The length of the contest depends on the number of contestants, but all awards are presented before supper.
For those wishing to compete, registration is from 11 a.m. until noon with an opportunity to practice with an accompanist during that time. Contestants can provide their own accompaniment or they can select one from those provided by the MFA association.
There is no fee for entering the competition. Contestants, children under the age of 16 and one parent of an accompanist get in free. For everyone else, the cost is fifteen dollars which include the contest and after supper entertainment. For those wishing to eat at the venue, there is an extra cost for the catered supper.
