The Portage Citizen
Many Moods of Manitoba, a solo exhibition by Susan Selby will open Jan. 29 at the Portage & District Arts Centre (PDAC).
The main gallery exhibition is scheduled to run until to March 9. An opening reception is planned for 2 p.m. on Feb. 3.
Susan Selby has lived most of her life in Manitoba and draws inspiration for her art from the prairie landscape. A textile artist, Selby has been quilting and sewing for many years. Using photographs that she has taken of various scenes in Manitoba, she interprets these in fabric. A lot of her focus has been on the Manitoba Aspen trees in the various seasons. Selby uses a wide range of fibre materials and techniques to bring her work to life. With many hand-dyed fabrics, she is able to achieve the colour and textures that suit each piece.
“Seeing this textile artist work up close is amazing. Susan is able to paint beautiful scenes with fabric and thread,” said Margaret Bernhardt-Lowdon, PDAC and William Glesby Centre executive director.
The opening reception on Sunday, February 3 at 2:00 pm. The event is free and open to the public.
Exhibition Sponsor: Portage Consumers Co-op Ltd.
