Raising money for jazz recording

Mickey Dumont

The Portage Citizen

Last Spring Juno Award winner Mike Rud visited Portage la Prairie to help with the

“Spring into String” celebration of the guitar benefit concert for the guitar programs at Portage Collegiate Institute, École Arthur Meighen and the Rock Room at PCI.

Today the accomplished jazz guitarist is 40 per cent closer to his goal of making an album with one of the greatest players of the instrument: New York’s Peter Bernstein.

He is looking for music fans to help with his latest project, a collaboration with world-famous jazz guitarist Peter Bernstein.

Creating the Mike Rud/Peter Bernstein album is subject of a GoFundMe effort to raise $10,000. 56 donors so far have helped raise close to $4,000 to help this magical collaboration to occur.

Mike and Peter have known each other since way back in 1992 but finally began performing together in 2016.

Paul Johnston, who produced Mike’s 2014 Juno winning CD “Notes on Montreal”, will be flying in to handle recording duties. The album will have the momentum of Edmonton’s Bent River Records to push it along into the world.

The Montreal-based guitarist has family in Portage la Prairie and memories of a childhood at Southport.

Donations over $20 will receive a physical and/or digital copy of the album and for donations over $100, you’ll also receive demo tracks made in 2017 in Montreal.
