Mother Nature tried to take the punch out of a march to stop drug violence here Saturday, but it didn’t take the wind out of its sails.

A core group gathered in Island Park Saturday and held the march in defiance of the previous high winds and rain and still peacefully marched on the streets of Portage la Prairie.

“Thank you, everyone, who came out and walked and eat with us, both from Portage and Winnipeg,” the group acknowledged on its Facebook page. “Thank you to the family members of Kurtis and Jeff who were able to join us. Thanks to all the volunteers, to the RCMP for sending a car to lead us and to Marlene and Shannon for the pipe ceremony.
“We are Glad to see our community acknowledging the problems here.”
