The following is a summary of police activity in the Central Plains Area (Portage la Prairie, Treherne, Amaranth and the surrounding Rural Municipalities). The reporting dates are between July 1-7, 2019. During this time police responded to 337 calls for service.

Police release photo of a person of interest

Portage la Prairie RCMP today released a photo of a person of interest they need to interview in the June 21 assault and robbery at the Canad Inn Bottle Shop.

This is a still shot at the Canad Inn Bottle Shop of an alleged suspect police hope will generate some leads in the unsolved robbery and assault.

The police investigation reveals a suspect entered the bottle shop at approximately 9:20 a.m. and fled with two 30-packs cases of Budweiser Beer. A store employee chased the suspect to a white car and confronted him. The suspect kicked the employee in the chest prior to speeding off. The employee sustained minor injuries.

Police caution if seen do not approach the suspect. “The public is reminded to call the police in situations like this in order to avoid putting themselves and their safety at risk.”

Man charged in assault

Portage La Prairie RCMP was called to a report of an assault at 12:31 a.m. on July 5 to an 18th St. NW residence.

A police investigation determined that a 40-year-old woman had been assaulted with an extension cord. A 38-year-old male suspect was arrested and charged with assault with a weapon.

Liquor dispute leads to an assault charge

Portage La Prairie RCMP was called to a report of an assault in front of a business on Saskatchewan Ave. W. in Portage La Prairie in the early morning of July 6.

At 1:46 a.m. police attended the location and interviewed a 24-year-old female victim who alleged she had been assaulted in a dispute over a bottle of liquor.

The victim told police that she had been assaulted by an 18-year-old female who was located by police and charged with assault.
