SUPPLIED by Portage MCC – Portage MCC Thrift Shop held its annual Volunteer Appreciation Supper on July 8, hosting a special dinner with guests from MCC Manitoba to honour its volunteers.
“Each year we pause to celebrate our wonderful volunteers and express our appreciation for their work through a special event held at the Herman Prior Centre. This past Monday 117 volunteers and guests joined us for a two-hour program that included a delicious meal catered by Countryside Kitchen & Catering, a wonderful selection of “pick-a-prize” prizes, singing by Marv & Darlene Kehler, door prizes, and a presentation from MCC Manitoba’s Thrift Coordinator, Josué Figueroa.
“Many local businesses showed their appreciation as well: Chicken Chef, Delta Ag, Jeffries Bros. Vegetable Growers, Mayfair Print Shoppe, Mil-Jeanne Flowers & Axcenz, Prairie Dew World of Water, Rona, and Vanstone Nurseries all donated prizes for our volunteers.
“The amount of work that our volunteers take on is astonishing. From sorting books and clothing to blanket making and arranging displays, our volunteers do just about everything.
Here’s another big thank you to all our lovely volunteers

About Portage MCC Community Assistance Centre Inc.
Portage MCC has been in operation in Portage la Prairie since 1983. We sell donated clothing, books, furniture and other household items in order to raise income for the ministry of Mennonite Central Committee (MCC). Portage MCC is a ministry in and of itself, providing low-cost goods to people in our community while raising funds for international and local aid. Our Thrift Shop and Furniture Plus stores also make a valuable contribution to good stewardship and a healthy environment by recycling items that might otherwise be thrown away. We also provide a sense of community to volunteers and the people we serve through social interaction in a caring environment.
