Dietrich and friends play to full house for Voices of the Prairies

Johnny Dietrich’s 13th annual Voices of the Prairies concert Saturday night attracted nearly 500 to a full-on variety show featuring three acts.

The Canad Inns main ballroom was set up to welcome 417, but as the Saturday night breeze blew in more guests, volunteers began to haul out extra seating to fill the large room.

When an enthusiastic patron told Dietrich he thought ‘this was your best show yet’, with a wide and appreciative grin he responded, “better than last year? Because we thought that was our best one yet!”

Dietrich’s main act — Kickin’ Up Dust — with sister Colleen Bryce on guitar and vocals and Ken Wettlaufer, bass guitar and vocals, was anchored by lead guitar and drums.

The Sharpe Sisters again co-hosted and used Voices of the Prairies to launch their second CD ‘Three Hearts’ as part of the evening. Special guests twin fiddlers ” of Winnipeg won over a new horde of fans as they charmed their way through a handful of fiddle tunes.
