Grease is the word in Glesby singalong sensation

Nov. 1 is the time to cruise down to Rydell High School, AKA The William Glesby Theatre, and get your grease on during a special presentation of arguably the most sung along (“I got chills… They’re mul-ti-ply-in’…”) musical ever: Grease!

The Glesby is inviting you to put on your 50s outfit, slick back your ducktails and come to share in the fun the musical has grown to be.

Ever wanted to know what it’s like to be a T-bird or a Pink Lady but never quite felt cool enough to pull it off? Well, now is your chance to don those pink jackets, grease up those quiffs and let your inhibitions go for an evening where you are the stars. And remember Grease is the word…
The evening begins with your singalong Grease host leading a vocal warm-up and hand-jive lesson before showing you how to use your free fun pack during the film and suggest some appropriate heckles and accompanying actions.
Then just sit back and watch Danny and Sandy and the gang, while singing (and dancing) along to the lyrics on the screen.

“There’s no need to worry about if you remember the words to the songs because they will be up on the screen,” says Carole Lupkowski, Prairie Fusion Arts & Entertainment board member.

It couldn’t be easier… or more fun! The first rule of singalong-a is THERE ARE NO RULES! Fancy dress is strongly encouraged and full audience participation essential.
Get dressed up and for a night you can be Danny Zuko, Sandy Olsson of a member of the T-Birds ‘greaser gang’ or one of The Pink Ladies.

The floor plan calls for lots of room to allow dancing so seating will be limited.

All ages are very welcome (must be 18+ for bar service), costumes are highly encouraged (because costume contest!), and audience participation is absolutely essential!

This is the musical that has endured for decades and helped solidify the careers of John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John in the re-release of Grease in 1978 and is still the soundtrack that results is the uncontrollable urge to burst into song?

Doors open at 7 p.m. with a 7:30 p.m. movie start.

In conjunction with the Prairie Fusion Arts & Entertainment, The Portage Citizen is giving away two tickets to one reader. Just send an e-mail to mickey@theportagecitizen.ca with Grease singalong in the message line. Please include a daytime phone number for verification purposes.
