A little pepper has been added to the Whoop & Hollar Folk Festival Open Mic & Jam this Friday as Winnipeggers Cary Bilcowski and Morgan Fiks of the high-energy “folk-soul” group The Hairy Prairies will be hosting the show.
This Friday at the Portage Legion’s Cedar Lounge, following a break for the holidays, the stage is yours at the third Open Mic & Jam Night of the season.
“These popular musicians played Whoop & Hollar Folk Festival in 2017 and will be getting the crowd warmed up with a 30-minute mini-concert,” says festival artistic director Josh Wright. “Following that, the open mic begins, when anyone who has signed up before the show gets the opportunity to perform their own material, whether that’s music, comedy, poetry, or theatre.”
The evening finishes off with a public jam session, where participants are invited to bring their instruments and voices.
“We invite the community to come and check out the Open Mic & Jam Night, hang out, and maybe even perform.”
Doors open at 6:30 pm on Friday at 275 Duke Avenue in Portage, with the event running from 7-11 pm. The event is free.
