The Whoop & Hollar Open Mic and Jam Night returns tonight for its third season.
Excluding December, Whoop & Hollar Open Mic and Jam Nights are held on the last Friday of each month up to and including April at the Portage Legion.
“These monthly events are free to the public,” explains Linda Omichinski, festival founder. Recent funding from Portage Community Revitalization Corporation (PCRC) is allowing Whoop & Holler to run the event free. Previously entrance was by donation.
Tonight’s show will be hosted by Glen McCabe, an internationally-known Métis folk and blues singer-songwriter who has inspired Manitobans with his deep storytelling and captivating tunes since the early 1970s. McCabe played the 2019 Whoop & Hollar Folk Festival in August.
The Open Mic and Jam Night is growing popularity attracting performers from all around Manitoba with individual or group-led performances in music, poetry, comedy, storytelling, hip-hop, theatre, and more!
Starting this year, the Open Mic & Jam Night will open with a half-hour performance by the professional host artist, followed by 90 minutes of open mic sets then two hours of jamming. Bring your instruments and voices for the jam session!
If you have any artistic talent to showcase, you can sign-up between 6:30 pm and 7:30 pm to perform on stage.
The host will take the stage at 7 p.m. and the fun continues until 11 p.m. Food and beverages will be available for purchase from Sawmill Catering and the Legion.
