Portage MCC Thrift Shop held its first-ever Prairie Pregnancy Support Centre Fundraiser Day to raise awareness and funds for the Prairie Pregnancy local program.
On Aug. 27, Portage MCC partnered with the local Pregnancy Centre to host a special fundraising day, with a set amount of the proceeds going to the local program. “The final amount donated was $3,000, thanks to our loyal customers, donors and volunteers and with tremendous support from the Prairie Pregnancy Support Centre volunteers. Not only did we donate money, but we also created a greater awareness of their important work,” MCC said in a press release.
“Every fundraiser is a great pleasure to us; seeing the community come together to support a great local cause makes our work fun and brings joy to our volunteers and staff! Thank you to our patrons and volunteers for helping us raise awareness to the local work of Prairie Pregnancy Support Centre.
Tuesday, October 1st will be MCC’s last fundraiser of the year and will raise funds for the Tupper Street Family Resource Centre!

About Portage MCC
Portage MCC has been in operation in Portage la Prairie since 1983. It offers for sale donated clothing, books, furniture, hardware, and other household items at its two stores in order to raise income for the ministry of Mennonite Central Committee (MCC). The shops are ministries in and of themselves, providing low-cost goods to people in the community while raising funds for international and local aid. Both the Thrift Shop and Furniture Plus make valuable contributions to good stewardship and a healthy environment by recycling items that might otherwise be thrown away. “We also provide a sense of community to volunteers and the people we serve through social interaction in a caring environment.”
