United Way Portage Plains huge winner in Pieing championship
In the end, there could only be one. That one was United Way Central Plains (UWCP) as it came away the big winner in its annual Ultimate Pieing Championship raising over $5,000. Outgoing PRED Executive Director Vern May was the “other one” who single-handedly raised about $1,300 earning him champion honours and a trophy.
Melissa “The Vehicle Vixen” Draycott vs. Rhonda “The Selling Siren” Lodwick, Eric “Molar Masher” Kristoff vs Jeff “Six Feet Deep” Dubois, Kyle “The Petal Pusher” Pettinger vs Vern “The PRED-ator” May and Ian “The Literacy Lunatic” Wishart vs Irvine “The Metropolitan Maniac” Ferris all paired off in pie in the face matches to aid UWCP in its fundraising goal. Some unlucky participants received pies in the face, including “The Vehicle Vixen” Draycott, “Molar Masher” Kristoff, “The Petal Pusher” Pettinger and “The Literacy Lunatic” Wishart are undoubtedly pie-eyed over how their great fundraising went wrong and are compiling a list of donors should they be asked to step in front of the baker again.
The June 6 barbecue raised over $5,000, a record for the non-profit group that supports nine member agencies and countless other community response grants.
This is the second year for the UWCP Ultimate Pieing Championship.
