The annual Bike Week kicks off today (June 15) with activities planned each evening until the final pedal turns on Sunday.

Curious about the trails along the river? The Junk Yard Dogs are leading a ride Monday, June 15 so people can try something new. Meet at Dump Hill at 7 p.m. Helmet and off-road (mountain) bike are mandatory. Not for cruisers.
Public art tour. Meet at Splash Island at 7 p.m.
Organizers have added a photography challenge. “Take photos using a bike as part of the composition, frame the windmill, or owl or through the spikes or frame, or… put bikes in different configurations, let your imagination go,” explains tour guide and outdoor art committee member Yvette Cuthbert. “And hashtag them #bikeweekplap”
Wednesday, June 17 is the Freezie Ride from 6 – 8 p.m. Get the family and friends out for an after supper treat or three. Freezie stops will be at YQS, FLR, LVS, ECVS and Island Park. Groups that ride the entire route will have their names entered in a draw for a bag of ice cream sandwiches from What’s the Scoop (four bags available). Thanks to City Youth Councillor Abby for the jumbo freezies. Thanks to What’s the Scoop for ice cream sandwich prizes and thanks to Central Plains Cancer Services for some other goodies. No cookies and ice cream this year due to you know what.
All Out! Portage’s First Bike Jam! Meet at Simplot Central Park at 8 p.m. on Friday, June 19th. Decorations are available to spruce up your ride! Light up the night! Wear a costume! This is a slow, group ride through the streets of Portage with music blasting!
Saturday, June 20 the Junk Yard dogs will be leading the Gravel Ride through scenic Snow Valley. Meet at Saint Lupicin church at 10 a.m. There will be three routes- 12 km, 20 km and 24 km. Register with Blair by June 15th 204-856-9352. Picnic lunch available for purchase.
To wrap up Covid-19 Bike Week Breakout enjoy a 1-hour yoga session at Island Park on Sunday, June 21st. Maybe Dad would like to join you since it’s Father’s Day.
