City manager participates in CAO exchange

City of Portage la Prairie City Manager, Nathan Peto has been selected to represent his professional organization, the Canadian Association of Municipal Administrators (CAMA), to participate in the International Manager Exchange Program with the Local Government Managers of Australia.

Participants of the International Manager Exchange Program learn about management and service delivery practices in their exchange partner’s country through experiencing the day-to-day professional activities of their host. They will be exposed to the various strategies and best practices that have been employed to solve challenges and will be able to exchange ideas and experiences with their counterparts.

The exchange visits are timed around the Annual Conference of each host association to allow both managers to attend these events. Mr. Bernard Smith, CAO of Gympie Regional Council in Queensland Australia, will attend the 2019 CAMA Conference in late May, then travel back to Manitoba in early June, touring Portage la Prairie and the local region.

In September of this year, Mr. Nathan Peto will travel to Australia to represent Canada at the LGMA national meetings and visit with local municipalities in Queensland Australia, learning about the issues facing local government in that country.
