Portage MCC will be closed for the Christmas holiday, but before locking its doors this week, wishing staff and customers the best, the MCC board spread some community cheer in the way of a few generous donations.
“Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Portage MCC was unable to hold the usual number of fundraising days for local charities. Thankfully, due to continued strong support from our community, our board of directors was able to approve several special donations to four local charities, totalling $5,000,” says MCC Office Manager David Kanne
The four recipients are Alzheimer Society of Manitoba (North Central), $1,000; Herman Prior Activity Center, $1,000; Sunset Palliative Care: $1,000 and $2,000 to Valley View Bible Camp.
“As 2020 comes to a close, we are so very grateful for all the support we have received from everyone in our community and beyond. Thanks to our donors, customers, volunteers, and staff, Portage MCC was able to help those in need both locally and around the world through the work of the Mennonite Central Committee (MCC).
“We will close for our usual Christmas break from Dec. 24 to Jan. 1, reopening our stores on Jan. 2, 2021, with regular hours for shopping (Thrift Shop only) and reduced donation hours (8:30 a.m. – noon). Our online store (www.portagemcc.com) will remain open for shopping throughout the holidays.
