To reflect more of the geographic area it serves, Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) of Portage la Prairie, Inc. is changing its name to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Plains, Inc.
BBBS Executive Director Dawn Froese says the change has been on the radar for a few years.
“After the national logo changed in 2019, Big Brothers and Sisters of Portage while discussing changing their signage began to also discuss their name and came to the conclusion that it does not really reflect the area they serve,” she said.
Over the years Big Brothers and Big Sisters has expanded their programming to include the communities of Oakville, MacGregor and Gladstone, and wanted a name that would reflect what they are really doing.
“With the help of a grant from the Community Foundation of Portage & District, Big Brothers Big Sisters was able to begin the process of the name change. Earlier this month the paperwork arrived from the Province of Manitoba stating that our name was officially changed.
The registered charity remains at 15 Tupper St. S.
