An early morning Oct. 21 RCMP check on a suspicious vehicle resulted in the arrest of four and the seizure of a gun, break-in tools and drugs.
Portage la Prairie RCMP received a call of a suspicious vehicle in the west end of the city at about 1 a.m. RCMP officers located the vehicle with four occupants inside and conducted a traffic stop on Saskatchewan Ave. E. During the traffic stop, it was learned that the driver was wanted on an outstanding warrant and he was arrested.
Officers also located a loaded, sawed-off 22 calibre firearm, methamphetamine, tools used to do break and enters and drug trafficking equipment. Along with the driver, the three passengers were arrested for numerous firearm, drug and other charges.
As a result, Justyn Bourne, 32, from Poplar Point, was charged with 11 criminal code charges, Derek Dezeng-French, 26, from Portage la Prairie, was charged with nine criminal code charges, Marlon Whincup, 29, from Sandy Bay First Nation, was charged with 12 criminal code charges and Yolanda Mcleod, 36, from Alonsa, was charged with 11 criminal code charges.
All four were held in custody pending a court appearance.
