In light of reduced public health restrictions for thrift shops starting Dec. 12, Portage MCC Thrift Shop will reopen with some limitations and safe practices in place.

“We are thankful that we will again be able to serve our community by accepting donations and providing access to quality donated goods at affordable prices,” says Portage MCC General Manager Kevin Hamm. “ This also means that many of our volunteers and staff are again able to return to work.”

The Thrift Shop will return to regular store hours (Tue.-Fri. 9:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Sat. 9:30 a.m. – 4 p.m.) but with capacity held to 10 households in the store at a time. To track customer numbers, we will keep our front door locked and the back door will serve as the only entry and exit. Masks continue to be mandatory.

At Furniture Plus, we will open the store for in-store shopping by appointment starting Dec. 14. Call them at (204) 240-2526 to reserve an appointment for private shopping.

“We will continue to sell online, exclusively through our website portagemcc.com. Sales through Facebook have been suspended as we complete the transition to our online shop. Items previously posted on Facebook will either be transferred to our website or sold exclusively in-store,” Hamm said.

Donation doors will reopen at both stores starting Dec. 14 Monday through Thursday, 8:30 a.m. until noon, with no appointments necessary. To donate your gently-used household goods, place donations on the table set up outside (at Furniture Plus, ring the doorbell).
