RCMP report today a Portage la Prairie man wanted in connection with the city’s first homicide of 2019, was arrested in Winnipeg on May 24.
On the evening of May 24, 2019, RCMP, along with the assistance of the Winnipeg Police Service Tactical Support Team, arrested Laurent Beaulieu, 18, at a residence in Winnipeg. Until this information, police information indicated Beaulieu could have been in Portage La Prairie or the surrounding area. Police warned he was considered armed and dangerous.
Beaulieu was the centre of a manhunt in relation to the death at a First St. NW home in Portage la Prairie of a 22-year-old male from Langruth on May 20. A 17-year-old female was also arrested at the scene.
Laurent Beaulieu of Portage la Prairie has been charged with Second Degree Murder and is scheduled to appear in court today. The 17-year-old female from Long Plain First Nation has been charged with Accessory After the Fact to Murder and appeared in court on May 26.
Police have not released further information regarding a second murder in the area last week.
