An adopted family motto “We may not have it all together, but together we have it all”, is behind a family effort to raise funds to help one of their own rehabilitate following a horrendous accident.
Having just celebrated his 39th birthday, Nolan Smith was in a diving accident resulting in a broken neck 18 months ago.
Family members report immediate surgery saved his life, but Smith was left mostly paralyzed and requires intense therapy. “This particular therapy is not covered under our Manitoba Medical,” says family member Kathy Bryce. “This surgery saved his life, but he is left mostly paralyzed from the neck down and requires intensive rehabilitation to regain mobility and independence. This rehabilitation comes at a very high cost,” Bryce said.
“On March 23, I am hosting a benefit social for my cousin’s step-son at the Myers Norris Penny Building. We are a very large close knit family who stand by each other through thick and thin. My entire family will be providing the entertainment.”
Nolan Smith is Randy Panko’s stepson.
The money raised will go towards the extra physiotherapy, massage therapy which includes craniosacral therapy, acupuncture and one on one treatment specifically designed for spinal cord injuries.
Entertainment begins at 8 p.m. in this order: The Sharpe Sisters: cousins Megan and Jennifer Gair, Northern Reflections, the whole Sharpe Family, Johnny Dietrich & Kicking Up Dust and the Jimmy Sharpe Band
