A 17-year-old Portage la Prairie is in custody following Oct. 12 firearm offences including pointing a gun at pedestrians and shooting at — and hitting — a vehicle with people inside
Portage la Prairie RCMP responded to numerous complaints of a male in possession of a firearm at approximately 9 p.m. in the area of Lorne Ave. W. and 8 St. NW. Police say several people had reported a male had pointed a gun at them and was walking in the area. It was also reported that gunshots were heard. One vehicle with people inside was shot at and struck. Nobody was injured.
RCMP Police Dog Services and the RCMP Emergency Response Team assisted and just before 9:30 p.m., police arrested the 17-year-old. A firearm was located nearby.
A 17-year-old male is facing numerous firearms charges, including possession of a prohibited firearm, possession for a purpose dangerous to the public peace, point firearm x3, intentionally discharge a firearm, and discharge a firearm with intent to endanger life.
He remains in custody. The investigation continues.
