Physical distancing means not being able to be there, but the Whoop & Hollar Open Mic and Jam Night is plugging into the digiverse allowing its monthly Open Mic program to beat social distancing and come together anyway, safely.
“Switching to an online virtual format this Friday (March and April musical gatherings were recently postponed until the fall) folks from across Manitoba and beyond can tune in from the comfort of their own homes,” says Whoop and Hollar Artistic Director Josh Wright
“The need for live music and community-building events doesn’t stop,” he added. “In fact, the need is greater than ever at this time of extreme social isolation, when artistic creativity is overflowing and folks are coming up with innovative ideas to navigate this journey together.”
Wright adds the open mic performer sign-up list has been full each month, so finding a way to keep these artists in the spotlight while ensuring physical distancing was the festival’s logical choice for a fun season wind-up.
Anyone is invited to watch or participate in the Virtual Open Mic Night, which will stream live on Friday, April 3rd starting at 8 p.m.
Artists will be selected on a first-come, first-served basis.
The Zoom event link will be posted on the festival’s Facebook page @whoopandhollar.
