The Portage Terriers 2020 prospects camp. HANDOUT

SEPTEMBER 6, 2020

The Portage Terriers held their 2020 prospects camp Sept 45 with over 40 players in attendance.

The group consisted of prospects born between 2003-05 with many of them being drafted by the Terrier organization. They were split into four teams and started the weekend with skating and shooting drills on Friday night. Saturday the teams had three on-ice scrimmage sessions in front of Terrier coaching staff and scouts. It was the first event for the Terriers since the MJHL playoffs were cancelled on March 10 due to COVID-19.

“It was our first experience with all of the COVID-19 regulations, and we thought the players all respected what was required,” said Terrier head coach and GM Blake Spiller. “Overall we thought the camp went well and we’re happy with the talent of the young players. With contact not permitted the camp was more about skill.”

The next on-ice activity for the Terriers will be the main training camp starting on Sept. 25.

“We will be bringing a dozen players from the prospect camp to our main camp,” said Spiller.

The Terriers will hold the Geno Romanow Par 3 Challenge on Sunday, Sept. 13. The event is currently sold out.
